ನಿಟ್ಟೂರು ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಪ್ರಕಟಿತ ಶಾಸನ ಪತ್ತೆ:
ಸಿರುಗುಪ್ಪ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ನಿಟ್ಟೂರು ಗ್ರಾಮವು ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕವಾಗಿ ತುಂಬಾ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ. ತುಂಗಭದ್ರ ನದಿ ತೀರದ ಪ್ರದೇಶವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಸಾಮ್ರಾಟ ಅಶೋಕನ ಶಿಲಾಶಾಸನಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಕಾರಣ ಮೌರ್ಯರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಮಹತ್ವಪೂರ್ಣವಾದ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇರುವ ಶುಕ್ರದಪ್ಪನ ಬೆಟ್ಟವು ಸಹ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಪೂರ್ವ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟದ ಆದಿಮಾನವನ ನೆಲೆಯಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಗ್ರಾಮದಿಂದ ತೆಕ್ಕಲಕೋಟೆಗೆ ಸಂಚರಿಸುವಾಗ ಮಾರ್ಗ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಯುತ ಅಶೋಕ ಅಬಕಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮನೋಹರ ಸಿಎಂ ರವರು ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡಾಗ ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡದಾದ ಬಂಡೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಕ್ಷರಗಳನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು ನಂತರ ಇದೊಂದು ಅಪ್ರಕಟಿತ ಶಾಸನವೆಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಶಾಸನದ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿವರಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಿದಾಗ ಗಂಗಾವತಿಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಶರಣಬಸಪ್ಪ ಕೋಲ್ಕರ ಅವರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಸನದ ಅಧ್ಯಯನವನ್ನ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾರುತಿ ಭಜಂತ್ರಿ ಲಿಪಿ ತಜ್ಞರು ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಅವರ ಜೊತೆ ಹಿರೇ ಬೆಣಕಲ್ ನ
ಶ್ರೀ ಮಂಜುನಾಥ ದೊಡ್ಡಮನಿ ಅವರು ಜೊತೆಯಾಗಿ ಆಗಮಿಸಿ ಶಾಸನದ ಪಡೆಯಚ್ಚು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಶಾಸನವು ಮೌರ್ಯರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯ ನಂತರದ ಅಂದರೆ ಸುಮಾರು ಐದರಿಂದ ಏಳನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ಮಧ್ಯಭಾಗದ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಿರುವ ಲಿಪಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಯಾವ ಅರಸು ಮನೆತನದ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶಾಸನವನ್ನು ಹೊರಡಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು ಎಂಬುದರ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ಅಧ್ಯಯನವನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಒದಗಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ಈ ಶಾಸನದ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಂಡು ವರದಿ ಸಿದ್ಧವಾದರೆ ಸಿರುಗುಪ್ಪ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಇತಿಹಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಶಾಸನ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಯಾಗಲಿದೆ. ಆದಿಮಾನವನ ನೆಲೆಗಳ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಶಾಸನಗಳು ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯ ಕುತೂಹಲವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲು ಕಾರಣವಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಸಮೀಪದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಒಂದು ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಕೂಟರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯ ಅವಧಿಯ ಲಿಪಿಗಳು ದೊರೆತಿದ್ದವು ಆ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಈ ಶಾಸನವು ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಕುತೂಹಲ ಮತ್ತು ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ.

#Discovery of Unpublished Inscription in Nittur Village:
The village of **Nittur** in Siruguppa Taluk is a site of immense historical significance. Located on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, it provides vital insights into the **Mauryan Empire**, as it houses the rock edicts of Emperor Ashoka. The nearby **Shukradappa Hill** is also renowned as a prehistoric settlement of early humans.
While conducting field research on the route from Nittur to **Tekkalakote**, **Mr. Ashok Abkari** and **Mr. Manohara C.M.** identified characters carved onto a large boulder, which has now been recognized as an unpublished inscription.
### Study and Analysis
For a detailed analysis of the inscription, guidance was sought from **Mr. Sharanabasappa Kolkar** of Gangavathi. Script expert **Mr. Maruti Bhajantri** conducted the study, joined by **Mr. Manjunath Doddamani** from Hire Benakal. By taking an estampage (ink impression) of the inscription, they determined that:
* **Period:** The script dates back to the post-Mauryan era, specifically between the **5th and 7th centuries CE**.
* **Status:** Research is ongoing to identify the specific dynasty under whose reign this inscription was issued. A complete report is expected soon.
### Historical Context
Once the final report is prepared, it will add a significant new chapter to the history of Siruguppa Taluk. The discovery of inscriptions in close proximity to prehistoric settlements has intensified scholarly curiosity. Notably, scripts from the **Rashtrakuta dynasty** were previously discovered on a nearby hill; the proximity of this new find adds further intrigue to the region's archaeological wealth.
